Manila council approves hires; city has several projects to complete

Manila City Council members approved hiring two part-time employees at the Monday, Feb. 17, meeting. One of the new hires will ride the trash truck and the other will assist where he is needed. Joe Chipman, water/sewer department manager, recommended the hiring of David Browder and Larry Jo Carpenter at $10 an hour. Chipman said they have a lot of projects going on right now and they need the extra hands...

American Greetings to layoff 268

On Monday, Feb. 17, approximately 268 associates at American Greetings Corporation plant in Osceola were notified of an upcoming layoff. It is expected that these layoffs will begin in late April and end in late June. According to Corporate Representative Patrice Molnar, “Certain classes of associates are eligible for severance benefits if their jobs are affected and we cannot place them in similar positions. ...
