Harold Dean “Bud “ Carmon

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

Mr. Harold Dean “Bud “ Carmon, age 84, who was affectionately known as “Pappy”, passed from this life on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Great River Medical Center in Blytheville. Born to James and Verna Walls Carmon in Paragould, Arkansas, he was a resident of Gosnell for much of his life and was of the Nazarene Faith.

“Bud” served his country with honor for 21 years in the United States Air Force, officially retiring out of the Blytheville Air Force Base and continuing his life with his family in Gosnell. “Bud” was a very dedicated, community minded individual whose desire was to see the City of Gosnell to grow and prosper. He served the City as a councilman from 1991-1994 but his service didn’t stop there. There was rarely a city council meeting that he and his wife Jean would not be present and “Bud” was an individual who would let his opinion be known. You could always count on that opinion to be one that would be to better the City of Gosnell. He and Jean were always present on clean up days and they would walk the highways picking up trash to help make the city look better. “Bud” carried the clean-up of Gosnell one step further working with Mayor Don Marshall to establish a recycling trailer so that the people of Gosnell could recycle their papers, metal and plastic. “Bud” also worked with Mayor Marshall, Fred Roberts and Lloyd Wright to establish a Veterans Monument that is located in front of Gosnell City Hall. This monument is a special way to memorialize loved ones (living and deceased) who have served their country.

“Bud” wanted his home and yard to look as clean and neat as he wanted the City to look. He was always working in his yard with flowers and plants. He was dedicated to helping others by helping with their yardwork, or fixing their items that might be broken. “Bud” was an individual who could “fix” just about anything. After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a maintenance employee for the Gosnell School District. He also retired as a Maintenance employee for Parkview Nursing Home, Keith acres nursing home, Manila Nursing Home and the Osceola Nursing Home which were all under the same management. “Bud” was also very adept at raising a vegetable garden from which he was always glad to share the fruits of his labor with others. If you needed something done all you had to do was ask and he would be there to help you.

In the midst of all these activities, “Bud” always made time for family and friends. “Bud” was a devoted husband of 63 years, serving his family with love and dedication. His faith in God was reflected in his love for others and being a good and faithful servant to those in need.

“Bud” was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harold Dean Carmon Jr., grandchild; Jessica Carmon Hobbs, and sister, Patsy Ann Carmon Meyers.

“Bud” is survived by his dedicated wife of 63 years, Jean Louise Curry Carmon of the home, children; Carmell Melinda Hobbs of Mesa, Arizona, Tawnie Lea Halsell of Gosnell, Arkansas, grandchildren; Katie Elizabeth Halsell of Gosnell, Arkansas. Anna Lea Halsell of Gosnell, Arkansas, Great grandchildren; Dawson Dean Halsell, Charlee Grace Halsell and brothers; J. W. Carmon and his wife Marge of Paragould, Arkansas and Jack Carmon of Highland, Arkansas and a host of friends.
