Johnnie Mae Hooks, 88, of Luxora died March 24, 2018 at her home. She was born January 29, 1930 in Cleveland, Miss. to George and Adline Hurst Dodds. She was a retired janitor from Luxora School District and a member of Pilgrim Rest MB Church, Motherboard and the choir in Osceola. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leandrew Hooks, two sons Leandrew Hooks, Jr. and Michael Hooks, Sr., one daughter Velma Williams, four brothers, Allen Dodds, Eddie Dodds, Walter Dodds and S.t. Dodds, seven sisters Katie Mae Dodds, Geneva Carter, Earline Ross, Eylonne Dodds, Augustine Gartley, Ernestine Dodds and Helen Stuckey. She is survived by four sons, Eugene Calvin Hooks of Jonesboro, Robert Hooks, Sr. of Luxora, Tommy Hooks, Sr. and Paul Hooks of Marietta, Ga., seven daughters, Geraldine Carpenter and Linda Barfield of Osceola, Rosie Hooks, Dorothy Taylor and Gala Mosley of Marietta, Ga., Freddie Thomas of Jonesboro and Donna Chew of Luxora, one sister Yvonne O'Neal of Chicago, 40 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 12-2 with the funeral at 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest MB Church in Osceola. Burial will be at Whiteside Cemetery in Osceola. Rev. Cleveland Cain officiating.
