Mr. Sam Macre

Mr. Sam Macre, 91, passed away on February 3, 2018. He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1926 to the late Ralph and Maria Macre and was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Macre; his brother, Tony Macre; and sister, Rose Mary Fairchild.

Sam leaves his two children, John Macre (Billie Jean) of Germantown, Tennessee and Sam Macre, Jr. (Beth) of Springdale, Arkansas; brother, Danny Macre (Babe) of Clearwater, Florida; five grandchildren, Michael, Ben, Justin, Jessica, and Jason; and two great-grandchildren.

Sam was interested in aviation at an early age and enlisted in the Army Air Force during World War II. He served as a crew chief mechanic, primarily on the P-51 Mustang airplane. After his service he attended Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Soon after graduation, Sam moved to Blytheville and worked at the Manila airport in various capacities, eventually owning and operating Razorback Fabrics, Inc. There he invented and patented a new method of aircraft covering. Additionally, Sam did work for NASA on experimental wind turbines and the FAA as a regional inspector. Not one to walk away from a challenge, Sam in his later years established and taught aviation at Black River Technical College in Pocahontas and at Arkansas Northeastern College in Blytheville.

Sam was a member of several organizations including the American Legion, Immaculate Conception PTA and the Knights of Columbus.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 8 at 2 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow in Dogwood Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the charity of your choice.
