Mr. Jerry Carlos Layton

Mr. Jerry Carlos Layton, 85, of Blytheville passed away on Wednesday, October 11, at Heritage Square Nursing Home. He was born in Earle to Herbert and Mamie Layton on March 21, 1932.

He served his country in the U. S. Navy in the Korean Conflict. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Blytheville and previously a member of First Baptist Church in Wynne. He had been a deacon since the age of 27. He was also an inactive mason.

Mr. Layton retired from maintenance at Halstead in Wynne after 35 years. He also enjoyed being a police officer for 8-10 years. He was a hard worker and was the middle child of 14 and worked to help support his family even at the young age of first grade…picking cotton.

He also enjoyed deer hunting at a club around Sheridan. He had a hobby of woodworking making shelving and he had made his daughter a coffee table. He was a Cardinal’s fan and was a quiet, gentle, and calm man who enjoyed traveling on vacation with his wife and daughter to Branson and to Disney World.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Brenda Kay Layton.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Tarbutton Layton, of Blytheville;

Two brothers, Paul Layton, of Lowell and Ray Layton of the state of Massachusetts;

Two sisters, Nell Layton of Nashville, Tenn. and Louise Midgett of the state of Mississippi;

He had special friends including Bill Sullivan and Harley Bradley.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 14 at Carney Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service begins. Burial will be in Carney Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at carneyfuneralhome.com.
