Bennett to continue baseball career at CRC
Gosnell Pirates senior Guy Bennett signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play baseball for the Crowley’s Ridge Pioneers.
Bennett was excited to go further and play the game he loves, simply saying, “ I get to go play baseball.”
Pioneers head coach Brenden Camp see Bennett as a pitcher for his Pioneers next year.
“He’s just going to pitch for us,” Camp said. “He threw a bullpen for us and he stayed 78-80 miles per hour with a lot of potential to grow and get stronger and throw harder. Most importantly he felt up the zone and had a lot of movement on his pitches and threw a lot of strikes and that’s all you could ask for is to throw strikes.”
Pirates head coach Blake Burnside says he’s proud of Bennett and hopes to see more kids sign to play baseball beyond high school.
“I am extremely proud of him and he’s got a little junkyard dog in him,” Burnside said. “He’ll get over there and work his tail off and I bet he will throw some for them. I’m excited to see him go play beyond high school; I wish more guys would do that. That’s one thing we hadn’t had enough of the last few years is guys leaving here and not going to play beyond high school. I wish him all the best and hope it works out for him, and I’m very proud of him. Those other guys have three months to follow his lead and I hope they do but (CRC) is getting a good one.”
Bennett also mentioned, “I’d like to thank Coach Burnside for helping me get here, thank my parents and teammates and the coaches at CRC.”
