Coping with death and grief

Sooner or later everyone will experience that gut wrenching, dagger in the heart type of pain called grief. I have dealt with it myself on a personal level, sometimes with family members who have lived a long fulfilled life, and other times with very young untimely and completely unexpected death. I have also experienced death with patients. I have been in the room more times than I can count working to resuscitate patients, to no avail. Other patients have gone peacefully with loved ones holding their hand and singing and praying as they took their last breath. No matter how the process goes, death of a loved one is completely devastating and leaves you with such raw emotion and the feeling of not knowing what to do.
