Roy E. Abshier, 93, Blytheville, passed from this life on November 1, 2015. Roy was born in Detroit, Mich., February 4, 1922.

Soon after graduating from high school in Detroit, he joined the United States Army. After serving 23 years, he retired from the Army in 1963, as an E6. His last tour of service was at Presidio (San Francisco) where he was the Tower Chief overseeing Air Traffic Control. He moved to Blytheville in 1963, where he worked as Grain Elevator Manager at Barfield for Farmers Soybean Supply for many years.

Upon final retirement, he spent his time raising a wonderful vegetable garden, which he shared with many people, and doing yard work which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved being a productive, self sufficient member of society.

Roy was an avid reader, and he also enjoyed his computer. He raised pecans, gathered them, cracked them, picked them out and gave them away. He had many pets through the years, and often kept pets in his home for people who were out of town for a few days. He was a kind, generous person who loved everybody. His special saying was "life is so precious!"

He married Marcella Grace (Sally) Cravens Till in 1944. Roy and Marcella joined First Christian Church in 1995, where they were both very active and beloved members.
