Ollie Mae Cherry

Mrs. Ollie Mae Cherry, 104, of Little Rock, died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Brookside Rehab Nursing Facilities in Little Rock.

She was born in Caruthersville, Mo. on March 28, 1911, the daughter of Jesse Jones and Rebecca Patterson Jones. Mrs. Cherry moved to Blytheville in 1928 and became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

In later years, she became a member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. L.D. Davenport. She was always a supportive member of True Light, and actively supported all the ministries of the church.

When her health began to fail, she moved to Little Rock to be cared for by her niece. Her "Blytheville family" went to Little Rock often and celebrated birthdays with her.

Mrs. Cherry is survived by her niece, Presiding Elder Mary Williams of Little Rock;

The Aldridge family;

Four nieces, Lillie Jones Carthan, Pearlie Jones Douglas, Dora Lofton and Hattie Kidd;

Two children she reared as her own, Terrell Barbosa and Terrence Corthan; and

Other nieces, nephews and relatives.

Visitation will run from 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 at True Light Missionary Baptist Church until 11 a.m., when funeral services will begin. Rev. Jay Slaughter and Rev. Adron Poole will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Gardens.
