Lola May Johnson Boone

Mrs. Lola May Johnson Boone, 90, of Cooter, died Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Born Oct. 28, 1924, to the late Arthur Johnson and Lula Bell Smith Johnson, she was the third of 11 children. She married the late Clarence Boone on Aug. 7, 1946, and gave birth to eight children, two of whom preceded in her death as infants.

She was a very loving and selfless person. She always put the needs of her family before her own. With the very difficult task of raising a large family by working in the fields and growing their own food, she had no time to consider anything for herself and never complained about anything. One of her great joys was always having her vegetable garden which produced most of the family's food. She took great pride in it, and missed her garden very much as she got older and was no longer able to work.

She was a longtime member of the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter, and she loved her church very much. She enjoyed time with her ladies of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. The highlight of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her delight.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Emma Williams, Mary Beatrice Johnson and Bertha Connell; and five brothers, Conard Johnson, James "Bud" Johnson, Herbert Johnson, Robert Johnson and LeRoy Johnson.

Mrs. Boone leaves six children, Jerry Boone and Geneva (Thomas) Raidt of Cooter, Charles Boone and Jimmy Boone of Holland, Jennette (Kenny) Thomas of Blytheville and Thomas (Brenda) Boone of Cottonwood Point;

Two brothers, Emmett Johnson and Johnny Johnson of Steele;

Twelve grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and

A host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter with the Rev. Tim Abernathy and the Rev. Dale Leveling officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele. The family will receive visitors from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holly Grove Baptist Church.
