Lavonda L Jones, 88, of Monette, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1926, in Ridgely, Tennessee, to Lee Tallie Karnes and Mary Edna Fincher Karnes. She was of the Baptist faith. She retired as a secretary from civil service, USAF/Eaker AFB 97th Bombardment WG, Division of Deputy Commander Resource MGMT.

She loved being outdoors working in her yard and her vegetable garden. She and her husband, Jimmie, used to have a vegetable stand in Gosnell, and later, one in Monette. She was a good cook and a favorite was her fried chicken and potato salad. She enjoyed sewing, dancing and being with friends, reading and using the computer. She loved playing the piano with her grandson Kasey, and she loved her family more than anything.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmie Jones; a brother, J.T. Karnes; a sister, Janice Gray; a grandson, Brian Calvert; and a nephew, Randy Gray.

She is survived by one son, Mike Chitmon and his wife Sandy;

Two grandsons Kasey Chitmon and his wife Jennifer of Houston and Justen Chitmon of Guanacaste, Costa Rica;

Two granddaughters, Shelly and Joe Richardson of Blytheville and Pam O'dea of Mountain Home;

Nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and

A host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Carney Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Welch officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Carney Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Carney Cemetery.
