Marilyn Ardis Boyd Poff, 76, of Gosnell, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred (Esseltine) Boyd and was of the Baptist Faith. Marilyn was an individual who made every second of her waking moments count, for she knew how precious each moment was. For 39 years Marilyn was a devoted wife to her husband, Rodney. She enjoyed spending any time possible with her family playing cards or cribbage. Her grandchildren, who she loved to play video games with, (she seemed to enjoy it more when she would win) always had a special place in her heart. She liked to keep her mind sharp by working crossword puzzles and reading books.

One of her special talents was being an excellent cook. The aroma that came from her kitchen would make you hungry whether you were or not. Much of her food came from her own vegetable garden, as she enjoyed growing vegetables and canning them. She enjoyed her flower garden as well and especially wild flowers.

Marilyn was preceded in death by one son, Larry James Courtney; two sisters, Pat Vandermolen and Jane Bass; one brother Jim Boyd; and one grandson, Shawn Courtney.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney Poff;

Six children, Tracy Courtney of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Beth Ann Mattera of Chicago; Becky Smothers and Scotty of Gosnell; Patricia Higdon and Jimmy of Lehigh Acre, Florida; Amanda Parish and Justin of Gosnell; and Rodney Poff Jr. and Audrey of Jonesboro;

Twenty grandchildren, Kyle Courtney and his wife Erin, Kody Courtney, Alyson Courtney, Meagan Courtney, Keaton Mattera, Marilyn Mattera, Charlie Mattera, Ben Mattera and his wife Grace, Josh Smothers and his wife Mallory, Justin Smothers and his wife Kelsey, Matt Smothers, Michael Courtney-Brown and his wife Carrie, Nikki Jackson and her husband Kyle, Zach Stein, Carly Parish, Kennadie Parish, Rhett Parrish, Austynn Parish, Eric Poff and Jenna Courtney; and

Eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cobb Funeral Home, with funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Hyde officiating. Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.
