Closing Osceola hospital isn't the answer

Monday, September 15, 2014

To the editor:

In response to Mr. William Masterson's letter, "County can't afford two hospitals."

While he is doing all his research, does he know how many times Mayor Dickie Kennemore of Osceola all but got on his knees and begged for the county to let the city of Osceola take over and run our hospital? You would think that would be the solution so the Blytheville Hospital System would no longer have to support a so-called losing facility. But no! That never happened!

I just wish someone would explain the reason the hospital system keeps dragging us along. There is constantly someone from Blytheville making the suggestion that the Osceola hospital should be shut down. We, too, have people who depend on our hospital for care as well as jobs.

Maybe the thinking is if we are closed the people from the south end of the county would all flock to Blytheville, but I don't see that happening.
