Dorothy Lousie Carnell Wren Toombs

Friday, September 12, 2014

Dorothy Lousie Carnell Wren Toombs, 91, of Blytheville, passed from this life on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at her home.

Born to Julian and Lizzie Sanders Carnell in Halls, Tennessee, she was an area resident for most of her life and of the Baptist faith.

Dorothy loved to put jigsaw puzzles together.

No matter what size they were, they were always restful and entertaining to her.

Dorothy also loved to read various types of books before her eyesight got to where she couldn't. She enjoyed keeping her hands busy with crocheting and could probably crochet and put her jigsaw puzzles together at the same time.

Dorothy's greatest joy in life was her occupation, which was a homemaker.

The work of a mother, wife or grandmother proves there is no such thing as "just a homemaker." Dorothy was proof of this saying for the home she made was a special home. It was filled with love, warmth and joy, and the sound of laughter would ring out on many occasions. Family reunions were some of her most memorable moments. The love she provided came from deep within her heart and was so strong that one of her children told her recently, "Mom, even if I could, I would not change anything in my life but would want to be raised the very same way you brought me up as a child."

She was a devoted wife to Woodrow Wren, a truck driver who knew that he had nothing to worry about at home, for Dorothy was more than capable of taking care of the family. In 1976, Woodrow died, but the "home" was still strong, as Dorothy's love had to go a little farther as her grandchildren received the very same love their parents received.

Her family was everything to Dorothy, and there were no sacrifices too great for her. As a friend and neighbor, she exhibited the same care and devotion to make you feel like part of the family.

She faced the everyday challenges with faith, courage and love, and will be remembered for all her attributes.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Woodrow Wren; second husband, Harding Toombs; sister Inez Wilson; brothers Jimmy Carnell Jr. and Talmadge Carnell; and granddaughters Angela Wren and Paula Carol Tolson.

Surviving Dorothy are her children, Carolyn Louise Clark of Conway, Dwight and Diane Wren, Gary Wren and Judy Wren Daniel, all of Blytheville;

Grandchildren, Paul and Cheryl Tolson Jr. of Blytheville, Jimmy and Michelle Clark Jr. of Steele, Mo., Mike and Christie McCurry of Blytheville, Joe Dan and Lauren McCurry of Little Rock, Gary Wren Jr. of Blytheville and Randal and Jennifer Wren of Blytheville; and

Eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, with grandson Rev. Jimmy Clark officiating.

Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery, and the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday, at Cobb Funeral Home.
