Donald "Donnie" Melton Brooks, 81, of Manila, passed from this life on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at his home.

Born in Manila, he was the son of the late Clarence and Zephyr Thomas Brooks and had been a lifelong Manila resident. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a longtime employee of the former Crompton Manufacturing in Osceola, before retiring from Milwaukee Tool Company in Blytheville. Donnie was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge #588 in Manila, where he served as past master.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, James Dale Brooks, Donald Wayne Brooks and Ronald Brooks; three brothers, Jimmy Dale Brooks, James Brooks and C.J. Brooks; and one sister, May Strain.

Mr. Brooks leaves his wife of 46 years, Peggy Sue Bibbs Brooks of the home;

One son, Larry Brooks and his wife Christie of Minier, Ill.;

One daughter, Pam Cheadle of Manila;

One brother, Carl Brooks and his wife Bertha of Manila;

One sister, Pat Pannell of Blytheville;

Three grandsons, Lynard Brooks, James Brooks and Jay Allen Brooks;

Two granddaughters, April Stone and Rachel Cheadle;

Three great-grandchildren, Kroston Anthony Diffee, Swayzee Stone and McKenzie Brooks;

A special niece, Jimma Brooks; and

Several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. William Piercy, were held Monday at Howard Funeral Service in Manila. Burial took place at Manila Cemetery.
