Betty Black Geeslin

Saturday, June 21, 2014

Mrs. Betty Black Geeslin, 85, of Blytheville passed from this life on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at her home.

Born to Farnsworth and Kathleen Black in Memphis, she had lived most of her life in Blytheville. Betty was a retired school teacher from the Blytheville School System and an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she and husband T.E. Geeslin were the first to be married in the existing Church Building.

She was also a member of the Seekers' Sunday School Class, The United Methodist Women's Group, and an avid reader who was very active in her book club, Chapter N- PEO, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vanderbilt University and belonged to the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

Betty loved her weekly bridge game with her friends, working daily crossword puzzles and her weekly game of scrabble with friends. Her years of service and instruction as a teacher helped to guide and touch many lives.

She faithfully devoted volunteer hours to the yearly fundraiser selling calendars for the First United Methodist Women. Betty never missed a day reading her daily devotional. Family was very important to her and she would light up whenever the grandchildren came in. Her grandchildren gave her the name "Mimi" and that name stuck with her, with her family and many of her close friends. She loved to spend time at Hardy, Ark., especially at her cabin on Spring River.

Her life as a Christen arose from the deep faith that was the guiding part of her life and it showed in everything she did.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Truman Egbert "T.E." Geeslin and her son, William "Bill" Geeslin.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Geeslin of Blytheville;

Grandsons, Nicholas "Nick" L. Coleman of Fayetteville, Ark., Christopher "Kit" W. Coleman of Maumelle, Ark.;

Cousins, Art Harper of St. Louis, Kate Connolly of New York, NY, Susan Lammert of St. Louis, Bobby and Terry Coleman of Blytheville, and a dear young lady named Renata Bacheco of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who was a foreign exchange student and continued to be a part of Mimi's life even after she returned to Brazil.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Robin Moore officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery and the family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. also at the church. Cobb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
