Sherlon Rachel Carpenter Blount

Mr. Sherlon Rachel Carpenter Blount, 78, of Gosnell, passed from this life Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Baptist South Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. Born in Beebe, she graduated as the salutorian of her class in 1953 and went on to earn an associate degree in business from Arkansas State University in Beebe. It was there she met her husband of 57 years, Cloyce Blount, who later retired as a sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. During their military life together, they were stationed in Germany and other bases until receiving orders in 1960 for Blytheville Air Force Base. It was at BAFB they raised a family of five children and began a business of renting mobile homes to airmen stationed at the base. Not only her business education but her work experience at the Five and Dime in Beebe (called the Racket Store for which she had many fond memories) played a vital role in the service of the of the family business which she operated until her death.

Together they both enjoyed traveling the United States and abroad. She was an active lifelong member of the Nazarene Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She had a kind, caring disposition and a warm sense of humor. She was known as a "sweet lady" by all she met. She was very caring for people in need and was loved by many. She was the moral compass for her family and deeply loved by all her children.

Sherlon is survived by her children, Mark and Barbara Blount of Gosnell, Perrin and Beverly Blount of West Fork, Tim Blount of Gosnell, Eric and Emese' Blount of Gosnell, Sharon and Derek Prince of Ponte Verde, Fla.;

Her grandchildren, Lindsey Gilliam, David Blount, Spencer Blount, Austin Prince, Jason Prince, Angela Blount, Henry Blount;

Her great-grandchild, Eli Gilliam;

Two brothers, Don Carpenter and Gary Carpenter; and

A sister, Becky Kirk all of Beebe.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Privett officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until service time and burial will take place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Antioch Cemetery in Antioch, Ark., near Beebe.
