Alberta (Rogers) Rucker

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Mrs. Alberta (Rogers) Rucker was born in Clarksdale, Ark., Sept. 18, 1917, to Matilda Danley and Sam Rogers. She received her spiritual guidance under Pastor Lumpkins and Bishop Theodis Rucker of Mount Moriah Church in Blytheville where she faithfully served on the Mothers Board.

She moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., where she was under the guidance of Pastor Manasseh Bankhead of Muskegon, Mich.

She was a dedicated mother of 14 children. She loved to fish. She had a love for the Lord like no other that she passed to her children. She was a woman full of great wisdom and had a love for all people.

Everywhere she went, she took joy, peace, love, happiness and understanding. Throughout having all her children, she had a great sense of humor. She refused to get old and most of all don't ever mess with her money.

She was called to glory Saturday, March 8, 2014. She was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; her husband William Rucker Sr.; five sons, Keno Rucker, Chance (Frances) Rucker, Tommy Rucker and Charley Rucker; and three daughters, Lavida Holloway, Betty Jean Rucker and Odessa Rucker.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Rev. Essie Curry and Minister Linda Rucker, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.;

Five sons, Sam (and Joyce) Rucker and Lonnie (and Janie) Rucker, both of Chicago, Bishop Theodis (and Dorothy) Rucker and William Rucker Jr., both of Blytheville, and Fabian Rucker of Grand Rapids, Mich.;

Two sisters, Mary (and J.P.) "Aunt Mag" Smith of Blytheville and Anna Mae (and Theodis) Brown (Aunt Mae Mae) of St. Louis; and

A host of nieces, nephews, five generations of grandkids, family and friends.

The love that she shared with and for all of us will be greatly missed but truly never forgotten.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. today (Friday) at Mount Moriah Baptist Church on Lake and McHaney streets in Blytheville. A family hour will be observed from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday at Prince of Peace Church. Funeral services will follow the family hour observance at the church with the Rev. Timothy J. Rogers, pastor. Pastor Manasseh Bankhead will eulogize. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Yarbro under the direction of McDonald-Horne Funeral Home of Blytheville.
