Mrs. Ossie B. Whirl, 76, of San Antonio, Texas, a former resident of Blytheville, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, in San Antonio.

She was born in Dell, the daughter of Talley Stewart and Rosie Jones Stewart. Prior to relocating to Texas, she was a longtime resident of Blytheville. While living here, she was an active and devoted member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church and sang in the choir and served in various other capacities and auxiliaries.

She retired from the Blytheville Public Schools as a food service manager in 1995. She was an accomplished cook, homemaker and business woman. Life was a simple recipe for her. Start with unwavering faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ ... add in unlimited amounts of unconditional love for family ... mix in lots of of lasting relationships with friends ... and finally, treating others with the dignity God gave them, no matter their position, financial status, attitude or appearance.

She was married to Charlie Whirl Sr. Her parents; husband, Charlie; sisters, Sadie and Louvenia; and brother Tommy, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Georgia Royster of San Antonio and Mrs. Lorrain (and Rufus) Mitchell Jr. of Blytehville;

Two sons, Charlie "Figgie" Whirl of San Antonio and Tony Whirl of Toledo;

Two brothers, John (and Ernestine) Stewart of Kansas City, Kan., and Clyde (and Eunice) Stewart of Luxora; and

Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at McDonald-Horne Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at True Light MB Church, 1100 Lilly St., with the Rev. Jay Slaughter officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Gardens.
