Halfway house shouldn't be near park

To the editor:

What in the world is going on or not going on in dear old Blytheville?

I cannot imagine that the city government officials would even dream that they would permit a half-way house approval to house 35 to 40 convicted criminals on a street, which is the main entrance to Walker Park. There are "no smoking" signs located in the park, so as to protect the health of visitors in the park, while approval was given to permit 35 to 40 criminals to live within three blocks of the park.

Is smoking more dangerous to citizen's health than 35 to 40 convicted criminals?

It should also be noted that these individuals will be looking for work so as to adapt to society once again. Blytheville's unemployment record is approximately 10 percent over a 23-year period of time. It appears that the city is more interested in caring for the convicted prisoners than those individuals (law-abiding citizens) who do not have a job.

Also, Was any consideration given for those individuals who own property and live on Kentucky street? What is your opinion toward a government decision that completely wipes out the value of your property and the lack of consideration for your health and safety?

It appears that there is a motel across the street from the proposed half-way house.
