Sarah Gray Bernhard Pittman

Mrs. Sarah Gray Bernhard Pittman, 80, of Wills Point, Texas, formerly of Greenwood, Miss., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013. She was born June 7, 1933, to Allen Christopher Bernhard and Hilda Hammett Bernhard in Lexington, Miss. She had a wonderful childhood with her family in Greenwood, as well as with her extended family from Lexington. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1951, attended Millsaps College, and then became a stewardess with American Airlines, based in Dallas, Texas.

In 1959, she married the true love of her life, Sam Allen Pittman of Coffeeville. She was a member of the Blytheville Junior Auxiliary for several years as well as a substitute teacher at the Junior High and High School. She also served as an Elder for several years at First Presbyterian Church in Benton, Ark. Her family considered her to be the best mom and wife three sons and a husband of 29 years could ever have. She was a member of Advent Presbyterian Church in Cordova, Tenn., and also served for many years at Pi Kappa Alpha National Fraternity Headquarters in Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, John Bernhard; and her loving husband of 29 years, Sam Pittman.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11 am. Interment will be in Coffeeville Cemetery.

She is survived by her sons, Sam Allen (and Missy) Pittman of Dallas, Texas, Johnny (and Marla) Pittman of Tyler, Texas, and Mike Pittman of Longview, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Sam Pittman, Sarah Margaret Pittman, Elizabeth Pittman, Johnny Pittman, Anna Kate Pittman and Gray Pittman.
