Mrs. Mamie Jean Davis, 79, of Blytheville, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Gosnell Healthcare Center.

She was born in Gates, and her parents, Frank Bowers and Mrs. Lurcennia Borum Bowers, preceded her in death. Her sisters, Lillie and Dorothy, and her brother Starling III, also preceded her in death, as well as her husband, Johnny Lee Davis.

She was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the Mission President and as a Sunday school teacher. She was the Secretary of the General Baptist District, and a regular attendee and delegate to the Arkansas Consolidated Missionary Baptist State Convention. She was also one of the founders of the Harrisonites.

Prior to her retirement, she had been an insurance agent for Universal Life Insurance Company, a cab driver for Friendly Cab Company, and an employee of ACCO Industries.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Davis Reed of Blytheville and Della Davis of Detroit;

Two sons, Albert (and Beatrice) Davis and Jonathan Davis, all of Blytheville;

One sister, Joyce (and Anthony) Esters of Hattiesburg, Miss.;

Two brothers, Donald (and Dorothy) Jenkins and Perry Jenkins of Millington, Tenn.; and

Nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and other relatives.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Friday at McDonald-Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church on Promiseland Road, where the pastor is the Rev. Frederick Clay. The Rev. Robert Hopkins is the eulogist. Burial will follow be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Blytheville.
