Binford Ercle Aycock

Mr. Binford Ercle Aycock, 81, of Athens, Tenn., died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Life Care Center of Athens. Born in Pontotoc, Miss., to Ercle and Leddie Ferguson Aycock, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and was a member of Decatur Church of God in Decatur, Tenn.

He was retired from the Caterpillar Company in Joliet, Ill., and was also a beekeeper.

On April 25, 2002, while he was working at a McMinn County rest stop, Mr. Aycock saw a note written on the bathroom stall left by a woman who had been kidnapped and held for six months. He called authorities and the abductor was apprehended.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Aycock; his brother, Bobby Aycock; and his sister, Ruby Williams.

Mr. Aycock is survived by his wife, Mildred Turney Aycock of Athens;

His daughter, Beverly Farmer of Athens;

Two sisters, Emma Jean Lowell of Walcott, Ark., and Martha Hubbard of Collierville, Tenn.;

Three grandchildren, John Gibson and his wife, Shannon, Michael Farmer and his wife, Samantha, and Joy Farmer; and One great-grandchild, Dakotah Leach.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13,, 2013 at Cobb Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Mays officiating. Burial followed in Dogwood Cemetery. The family received friends from 9-10 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home. An online register may be signed at cobbfuneralhome.com
