Citizens urged to keep dogs secured

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

To the editor:

I am writing this letter to draw attention to the residents of the Gosnell community. This is just a friendly reminder to please keep your dogs (pets) in your yard on a leash or behind a secure fence.

We need to remember that we want our streets to be safe to work in our yards. Dogs are supposed to be on a leash, or under the owner's command on their own property. They are not allowed to roam free on other people's property.

If you do not have a leash, please contact animal control. There are many people with dogs who just let them out and allow them to roam free, especially in the early morning hours. If your dog goes onto another neighbor's property, the animal control is notified and you may be charged.

Animal control is being overwhelmed with daily calls about dogs running loose due to the owner's lack of obeying the leash laws. These calls are starting to be a nuisance and can be avoided.

Please weigh the risk of your dog attacking a harmless passerby with simply putting your dog on a leash or behind a secure fence. Hope you would be kind enough to help us resolve our problem.

Thank you.
