James Lewis 'Sonny' Hawkins

Mr. James Lewis "Sonny" Hawkins, 78, of Cardwell, Mo., died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at his home. Born in Bald Knob, he was the son of the late Van H. and Lois Inez Taylor Hawkins and lived most of his life in Cardwell. He was a 1953 graduate of Cardwell High School and attend ASU at Jonesboro. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jerad Cole; his brother, Van Hawkins Jr.; and his sister, Virginia Iolene Emmons.

Mr. Hawkins leaves two sons, Danny M. (and Heidi) Hawkins of Moreland, Ga., and Shannon Hawkins of Myrtle Beach, S.C.;

Six daughters, Sheril (and Earl) Hull of Olive Branch, Miss., Tonya Burnside of Cardwell, Jamie (and Martin) Hawkins of Leachville, Dana (and Derrick) Higgins of Arbyrd, Mo., Connie Covington of Paragould, and Jennifer (and Chad) Springer of Greenville, S.C.;

Two brothers, Glenn (and Jane) Hawkins of Biloxi, Miss., and Rondie (and Sally) Hawkins of Lincoln, Neb.;

Two sisters, Lois (and Troy) Cleghorn and Sharon (and Harry) Bishop of Paragould;

Seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Mr. Dwight Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Cardwell Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 1-3 p.m. today. An online guest register is available at www.howardfuneralservice.com
