UPDATE: Blytheville officer involved in fatal shooting following hostage situation

Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson confirmed an officer was involved in a fatal shooting that took place early Saturday morning.

Thompson said the shooting, which resulted in one death, occurred in the 400 block of First Street sometime before 6 a.m. Saturday. BPD officers were responding to a 911 call regarding a person being held hostage.

Arkansas State Police officers also responded to the scene and began their investigation into what took place, and the BPD as well has begun an internal investigation into the matter.

The names of the individual shot and the officer involved are currently being withheld, but the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the internal investigation continues.
