BROOKLAND --The Gosnell Pirates won their sixth game in a row with a stunning, 59-58, overtime win on the road at first place Brookland, Tuesday night.
Brookland came into the game without a loss in the 3-4A at 9-0 and ranked number four in class 4A by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
After trailing most of the game, Gosnell (17-3, 7-3 3-4A) tied the game in regulation, sending it to overtime. With 20 seconds remaining, Tre Howe knocked down a pair of free throws to bring the Pirates within one at 58-57. The Pirates forced a turnover at half court following the free throw. Richard Razor found Rod Jones open down the court and Jones laid the ball in with 8.9 seconds remaining. Brookland got off a three-point attempt at the buzzer but it was no good.
The Bearcats led 17-10 at the end of one, 31-22 at halftime and 37-33 heading into the fourth.
Howe led the Pirates with 27 points and five assists and hit 15 of 17 from the foul line.
Razor added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and dished out four assists.
Jones scored 11, Will Rose chipped in eight and blocked two shots and Tevin Real grabbed four rebounds, swiped four steals and blocked two shots.
The second place Pirates return home Friday night to take on Highland.
Action begins at 5 p.m. with the junior high game followed by the senior high contest.
