Saturday, January 19, 2013

The Blytheville City Council's Finance Committee is scheduled to resume budget talks on Monday.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom, planning to discuss the General Administration budget as well as the police and fire departments and corrections' budgets.

Then, Thursday, the committee plans to look at the proposed budgets of the wastewater department and Waterworks, along with parks and recreation, which includes Thunder Bayou Golf Links, the Delta Gateway Museum, Blytheville Youth Sportsplex and city parks and pools.

On Monday, Jan. 28, the Finance Committee is expected to discuss the Street Department and Health and Sanitation budgets.

The plan is to meet on Jan. 31 for final discussion and vote on the 2013 budget, which must be passed by Feb. 1.

Chaired by Councilman Tommy Abbott, the board has met twice, asking in the first meeting that department heads cut their budgets by seven percent.

Those cuts, an alternative plan and notations of fixed expenses were due Thursday.
