Quarterly ward meetings to return this year

Thursday, January 3, 2013

Blytheville City Councilman R.L. Jones is bringing back the quarterly ward meetings.

Jones said, as always, the public is invited to and encouraged to attend the first meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Blytheville Public Library.

Jones, who was sworn back into office on Jan. 1, started the ward meetings back in 1995, his first year of his first stint on the Council.

Jones and former Councilman Mylas Jeffers organized the ward meetings for 16 years. They were held at Arkansas Northeastern College at the time.

The meetings often covered a wide range of topics as citizens expressed concerns about the top issues of the time. The police and fire chiefs, code enforcement officials, mayor and Council members frequently spoke at the events and answered questions from citizens.
