Updated: Osceola inmate dies in cell

Saturday, December 29, 2012

Saturday afternoon, Second Judicial District prosecutor Scott Ellington confirmed to the Courier News that the Arkansas State Police is investigating the death of an Osceola inmate.

No foul play is suspected.

According to an official with the Osceola Police Department, the inmate, identified as 20-year-old Michael 'Bud' Jones, a 2010 graduate of Osceola High School, apparently took his own life by hanging himself.

Jones was incarcerated Dec. 7, 2012, on a misdemeanor charge. He was assigned to a work release program until Dec. 27. Jones apparently brought prohibited articles into work release, according to Ellington.

Ellington said he was then charged with a felony.

Ellington said he was last seen at noon Friday, Dec. 28, and found alone and dead at 3:18 p.m. that day in a work release cell. Authorities reportedly discovered a bedsheet tied around his neck.

The body has been sent to Little Rock for an autopsy, Ellington said.
