Mary Elizabeth Jeffers

Mary Elizabeth Jeffers, 69, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Born Aug. 8, 1943, to F.M. Jeffers and the late M.C. Jeffers, she graduated from Lincoln High School in Forrest City and received her bachelor's degree from Lane College in Jackson, Tenn. She was an educator for 40 years and was selected for the J. William Fullbright Teacher Exchange Program in 1992. She was also a member of Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church of Forrest City, served on the Forrest City city council for 20 years, was a member of the Semper Fidelis Club and National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc., a lifetime member of the NAACP and Golden Life member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She leaves two brothers, Mylas (and Sue) Jeffers of Blytheville and and Michael Jeffers of Forrest City;

One sister, Chaney J. Murray of Forrest City;

One niece, Natasha (and Mark) Murray Norman;

Two nephews, Michael D. and Jeremiah Jeffers; and

Other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church in Forrest City. Funeral arrangements are by Clay Funeral Home in Forrest City.
