Playoff run comes to end for OHS, RHS

The Osceola Seminoles and Rivercrest Colts both dropped their Class 3A second round games Friday night.

The Seminoles fell at Greenland, 28-14, while the Colts were defeated at the Cotton Patch in Wilson by Fountain Lake, 55-13.

The host Colts were tied with Fountain Lake at halftime, 13-13, but a tough second half ended their playoff run.

Fountain Lake outscored Rivercrest, 42-0, in the final two quarters to advance to the Class 3A quarterfinals.

3-3A conference champion Rivercrest ends the season with a 9-3 record. The Colts had won nine straight going into Friday's game.

Meanwhile, at Greenland, Osceola had trouble holding onto the football, turning it over six times, including four fumbles and two interceptions.

Greenland got on the scoreboard first with 8:50 left in the opening quarter, when quarterback Darion Froud hit Blake Snider on a 16-yard touchdown toss to help the host team go up, 7-0.

Osceola answered later in the quarter after Shadondre Black's 64-yard punt return set up the Seminoles at the Greenland 18.

Maurian Carr scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak, and Shaquille Lockhart ran in the two-point conversion to give the Seminoles an 8-7 advantage with 5:34 left in the first period.

Greenland regain the lead moments later as Calvin Giddens trotted in from five yards out at the 3:12 mark of the first quarter. The PAT made it 14-8, the score going into the second quarter.

Osceola answered midway through the second stanza.

The Seminoles marched down the field with a 98-yard drive. Jamal Jackson, who had a big night on both sides of the ball, broke a 39-yard touchdown run at the 6:59 mark. Greenland denied the two-point try to keep it a 14-14 game.

The score stayed the same until late in the third quarter.

Giddens scored on a 7-yard run with 1:36 left in the third to help the host team to a 21-14 advantage.

The Seminoles were unable to answer the score.

Froud set the final margin with 1:45 to play, scoring on a four-yard run.

Osceola finished with 204 total yards, including 39 rushes for 189 yards.

Lockhart led the way with 18 totes for 97 yards, followed by Jackson's 13 carries for 96. Jackson also had 14 tackles on defense.

Playing hurt, Anthony Jones had eight tackles for the Seminoles.

Greenland had 43 rushes for 164 yards and Froud was 10 of 18 passing for 109. Greenland moves to 8-3 on the season and hosts Prescott Friday night in the 3A quarterfinals.
