Shots fired, no one injured

Saturday, November 17, 2012

CARUTHERSVILLE -- According to Caruthersville Chief of Police Tony Jones, on Thursday, at around 9 p.m., Caruthersville officers were called to 1400 Vest Avenue in reference to a phone call reporting that shots had been fired.

Officers spoke with the residents of the home and were told that a black male wearing a ski mask had entered the home with a loaded firearm. He then pointed the gun at the subjects demanding money.

One of the residents knocked the suspects gun toting arm downward, while another grabbed a chair and began striking the suspect in the face in an attempt to get the gun away from him. The residents reported that the suspect then bent over and began firing shots inside the home, they went on to say that they believe he shot himself in the stomach area because they saw blood dropping to the floor after the shots were fired.

Immediately afterwards, the suspect fled from the residence and officers were called to the scene. They canvased the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Officers called all of the area hospitals to notify them of the situation but were advised that no one had come in with a gunshot wound nor was anyone treated for any head or facial injuries.

Jones reports that officers processed the scene, collecting evidence and are continuing their investigation. None of the residents of the home were injured during the struggle.
