Mr. Gary Bruce Landes, 63, a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, in Dallas, Texas. A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch, Texas.

Born Aug. 13, 1949, to Bill and Betty Landes of Denver City, Texas, Gary was a fifth generation Texan. After graduating from Denver City High School, he attended Texas Tech University and earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering. Following college, Gary embarked on a 39-year career with General Electric in power generation services as a senior field engineer. He was awarded many service awards during this time, and in 2001 was inducted into the Academy of Steam Turbine-Generator Constructors.

Gary was an avid reader, traveler and storyteller. Among his favorite tales were the Chronicles of ED, his beloved rescued Boxer. Gary was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, was involved in the Special Olympics, and had served on the executive committee for the Carrollton Farmers Branch Soccer Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Landes; and Blytheville family members John Whitney Morgan Jr. (his father-in-law) and Ross Allen Morgan (his brother-in-law).

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca Morgan Landes of Carrollton, Texas, formerly of Blytheville;

His daughter, Shannon Lee Landes, of Carrollton;

His son, William Mason Landes and wife, Courtney Siegel Landes, of Fort Worth, Texas;

His mother, Betty Lee Landes, of Andrews, Texas;

His sister, Cindy Landes Porter and husband, Dennis, of Andrews, Texas;

His mother-in-law, Jo Ann Morgan Hughes, formerly of Blytheville, now residing in Fayetteville;

His brother-in-law, John Whitney Morgan III and wife, Beverly Nix Morgan, of Fayetteville;

His sister-in-law, Laura Morgan Jackson and husband, Patrick Woodard Jackson, of Little Rock; and

Many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the family cemetery in Clairette in the Texas Hill Country. Memorials may be directed to Legacy Boxer Rescue, Special Olympics of Texas or any other charity of your choice.
