Young people need to get busy; improve their lives

To the editor:

In a recent article. I read where someone stated that "we must stand behind our youth." I could not agree more; however, there is much more that needed to be added to this article.

The constant cry from our youth, "There is nothing to do," "What can we do" and "Where can we go?" Well, I would suggest that a good response might come from a juvenile judge in New Zealand. He said, "My answer is go home, cut the grass, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons and after you've finished that, read a book. Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun. The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. What do you owe it? You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely ever again."

In other words, grow up. Stop being a cry baby. Get out of your dream world and develop a backbone not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It's too late to just sit around and wait for someone else to do something someday.

Someday is now and that somebody is you. Mississippi County is a wonderful place to live and you can make it an even better place if you really want to. So show your parent, your teachers, your "friends," and best of all yourself that you have what it takes to be what God intended for you to be.

Make something of yourself, because you parents, your teachers and this community want to be proud of you. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you cannot accomplish your dreams of graduating and going to college. If you have a real desire to attend college, there is always a way to accomplish it if you want it bad enough. Don't let others drag you down telling you that you will never amount to anything, because that is a lie straight from the pits of hell.

How does this all start? It starts with you. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get off your royal behinds and get it done, because you are the only one who can do it. Don't wait for others to do it for you, because you will wait for a very long time. Life is too short, and the older you get, the more you will wish that you had done something earlier and not wasted all those years.

No one will ever tell you that life is easy. We all have our difficulties in life, but hey, do like the rest of us do and make the best of it and move on. Nothing is free and it will not be handed out to you on a gold platter. You have to work for what you want, but hey, millions of people before of have done it and so can you.
