Letha Jane Veach

Mrs. Letha Jane Veach, 105, of Corning, former longtime Manila resident and the widow of Mr. Roy Veach, passed from this life Monday June 4, 2012, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born in Manila, she was the daughter of the late David and Ollie Moore Rice. As a young girl she and her family traveled by covered wagon to Oklahoma to find work. She returned to Manila at the age of 18 and soon married Roy Veach. She and her husband Roy established nursing homes in Manila, Blytheville and Corning. She was also instrumental in organizing the First Missionary Baptist Church in Mississippi County.

Mrs. Veach was very active in local Home Demonstration Clubs and was a longtime member of the Eastern Star, holding dual memberships in Blytheville and Corning. She had lived in Corning for the past 25 years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She leaves one son, Jimmy Veach and his wife, Janie, of Manila;

One daughter, Rayo Edwards of Corning; and

Eleven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with the Rev. James Keel and the Rev. Sonny Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active and honorary pallbearers. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
