Thanks to all who helped with hospital cleanup

To the editor:

When I walked into my home away from home Wednesday night, (work), I was astonished, and dumbfounded, and a little distraught. The ER was full of water from a burst pipe and debris from ceilings tiles and paperwork. I gathered my wits and proceeded to make all the necessary calls to get things under control.

What happened next made me proud. We were quickly inundated with help. In a time of my life where I thought no one cared about this little ol' hospital, I found workers coming from all angles of service. Our own staff crawled out of bed on their nights off and grabbed brooms, mops and wet vacs, as did city workers, Emergency Squad members and family of staff. Those already here quickly took action to ensure that patient care wasn't interrupted and set up a new area for triage, while registration clerks moved furniture and equipment. Housekeeping and Maintenance waded through water and picked up trash.

It's easy to say it was their job or their duty and go on with the cleanup. What I want to do is say thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my soaked socks and shoes. Great River staff and family, Blytheville Emergency Squad, Blytheville Fire Department, Blytheville Water Works and Farrel Plumbing -- you are appreciated, and I will forever remember you for stepping up and helping in any way that you could. We couldn't have done it without you.

Thank you and God bless.
