Mrs. Christine Gillette, 83 of Steele, passed from this life Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Caruthersville Nursing Center.

Born in Dyer County, Tenn., to Wesley and Stella Atchison Parm, she was a housewife and a member of Denton General Baptist Church. Christine was raised by her mother and step-father, Earnest and Stella Scott. Christine enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden. She loved cooking her "specialties" which were dressing, dumplings and chocolate pie and sharing those with her neighbors and friends. She was a farmer's wife who was dedicated to making her home a wonderful place to be. Her children and grandchildren were foremost in her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Gillette; a son, Ronnie Gillette; two brothers, Harold Scott and Tommy Parm; and a sister, Barbara Ann Scott Dubar.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl Simmons of Hayti, Mo., Gwindel Hardin and husband, Richard of Seymour, Tenn., Ricky Gillette and wife, Glenda, of Trumann, Kathy DePriest and husband, Raymond, of Steele, and Reggie Gillette of Kennett, Mo.;

Her grandchildren, Derek Gillette, Robby Simmons, Christy DePriest, Bradley Gillette, Justin DePriest, Erick Scott, Kayelyn Gillette and Richard Hardin Jr; and

Five great-grandchildren, Tommy Gillette, Emily Gillette, Joey Gillette, Evelyn Simmons and Dakota Hardin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Dunavant officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele. The family will receive friends from noon until time for services today. An online register may be signed at cobbfuneralhome.com
