James Hampton Smith

Mr. James Hampton Smith, 79, of Memphis, died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. Born May 27, 1932, in Mississippi, he was a Baptist.

Mr. Smith leaves six daughters, Jessie Hampton of Peoria, Betty Hampton of Coahoma, Minnie Smith of Blytheville, Ollie Hampton of Tulsa, Pearline Hampton of Kennett and Diane Hampton of Houston;

Six sons, James Hampton Jr. of Chicago, Rev. McArthur Hampton Sr. and Larry Hampton of Blytheville, Charlie Hampton of Arizona, L.D. Hampton of Ashvern, and Isaac Hampton of Kennett, Mo.; and

Twenty-three grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. McArthur Hampton, will be held at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Luxora at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery in Burdette.
