Writer renews call for Vick, Eagles boycott

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

To the editor:

With the coming of the new professional football season I would like to renew my request that all caring and conscientious people join me in boycotting any game featuring Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mr. Vick remains one of the most despicable of all persons, a man that destroyed and tortured animals for fun. He does not even have the flimsy excuse of "needing the money." In interviews granted by major sports venues and media he has come across as unrepentant and the only sorrow he displays is for himself.

I have heard all the arguments of his having faced the judicial system and served his time; I am not unaware of this. What I see is someone that is not at all sorry he broke the law, but only that he was caught at it. If he is truly repentant, if he honestly regrets the horrible acts he participated in and financed why have we not seen any stories of dog fighting rings broken up based on information provided by Mr. Vick? If he truly wants to see this sort of outrage against dogs eradicated, where are the stories of his testimony in trials of his fellow miscreants? I think the answers to these two simple questions are obvious, there have been no such actions.

If you have any conscience, if you have any moral fiber, then join me in this boycott. The Philadelphia Eaglse and any advertiser or merchant that uses Eagles games to promote their products and services. I have canceled any and all subscriptions to Sports Illustrated, Sporting News and any media that promotes this man. (He is not deserving of the word beast.)

Join my one voice and become a multitude.
