Kudos to new city cleanup initiative

Thursday, July 21, 2011

To the editor:

I wish to thank both Mayor Sanders and the City Council for the "Clean and Safe Blytheville" meeting at the Boys and Girls club this past Saturday morning. Also, thanks to Councilmen Musgraves and Langston for their personal invitation to this meeting.

This meeting demonstrated the leadership of both our council and mayor in their efforts to make Blytheville a great place to live. In addition, as a Tea Party supporter, I was sincerely heartened by the words of many of participants and their willingness "to take personal responsibility" and "to individually make a difference" in Blytheville. These ideas are foundational for our country and the heart and center of the "Tea Party" movement.

As Councilwoman Overman noted in her opening remarks, "the government cannot do everything." With the attitudes expressed at this meeting like those of Bebe Gillespie of "Healing in the Hood" and others, I am sure we will together make great strides toward creating a "Clean and Safe" Blytheville.

Thanks again.
