Willie Lee Simmons

Mr. Willie Lee Simmons, 67, of Albany, Ga., died Friday, April 22, 2011. He was a retired United States Marine who served in the Korean War, Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm. He was a deacon at Sherwood Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Whaley.

He leaves his wife, Dorothy Sanders Simmons of Columbia, S.C.;

His father, Robert Simmons Whaley of Columbia, S.C.;

One daughter, Karen (and Daryl) Simmons-Dye of Albany, Ga.;

One son, Gary (and Anneke) Simmons of Albany, Ga.;

One sister, Betty Simmons of Bronx, N.Y.;

Two brothers, J.C. Whaley of Columbia, S.C. and William (and Tori) Douglas of Darlington, S.C.; and

One grandchild, Kayla Mineart of Savannah, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at New St. Paul Church. Burial will follow at Dogwood Cemetery.
